Just like a jet ski, your boat can be very dangerous if it continues at speed without someone steering it. If there's even the slightest possibility of you getting tossed out, you should have a lanyard setup. There are pics on this site of boats that kept going sans driver- it makes a mess. It also may come back in a big circle and run your a$$ over while you're bobbing in the surf. What's the phrase? "Insult to injury"

most of these boats come with a teather that would clip to your swim-suit etc. I have added a wrist strap to mine that hangs on the throttles when I'm not driving the boat. Too easy to just slip it on my throttle wrist when I go for a ride not to use it.

Absolute must!! I had an outdrive break off at 80+mph. Motor didnt shut down, but I did. Was unconsious for a few mins. Passenger pulled the throttle back, but it was too late for the motor. I always wear my tether now!!
