We are the only ones who offer bar/plate Cupronickel intercoolers with pure copper water passages (for Lee housings). There's a few that can make cupronickel coolers, but most make tube/fin which is best for cooling liquid, not air, the few that can make bar/plate would infringe on the patent if they used copper water passages. You have to be careful with tube/fin (we started with these in 98) and if the fins aren't supported at the top, the constant flow and pulsations can blow the fins off. This effects performance dramatically. If you use cupronickel water passages, you'll lose a significant amount of thermal reduction capability because of the nickel content.
The design was patented by the designer. Mercury Racing used some similar units, but they were a 3-pass designs which was not ideal for high flow water systems. This maximizied cooling with low water flow but hindered the performance at high flow levels and high power levels.
Prices have gone out of control because copper has gone from .78 cents a pound in 2003 to nearly $4.00 a pound, and it weighs nearly 3 times as much as aluminum, which is approx. $1.25lb.
