Rings for a 540
Hey guys i am back at it again. I should have wing nuts on this dam thing. I was wondering if someone here can tell me the difference between a plasma molley and a standard tention molley ring? I had a sealing issue last year. And, i am pulling it down again. for a freshen. I used Howards chrome molly file fits last year. I have been reading that many people are using the speed pro molly rings. If so what part number for a 4.5 bore 1/16 1/16 3/16 ring set? We dont run that hard up here and i think next time i pull it down i am gonna go bigger bore and rebalance. So tis is a short term solution. on the cheap if there is such a thing in boating.

Standard tension plasma moly rings are what most of us use for rings. They are ductile iron with a plasma spray coating of moly on the wear surface. Most manufacturers have a version they can sell you. They are durable but thought to be obsolete by drag racers who mostly use low tension rings and gas ported pistons.

Thanx guys
Yep finally got it right. I beat the snot out of it this summer. I put on 47 hours up here which is huge considering the cost of fuel and the income this year. I used 2 quarts the whole summer. I would say that is perfect.

Glad to hear you had a good summer. It's nice when the engines can stay in the boat over the winter. Mine are staying in the boat again for the second winter in a row. Woo hoo
