I have my old bearing pulled using threaded rod and am getting ready to install my new one...what im looking for in terms of help is tips on how to install it...whats the easiest and cheapest way to do it? special tools?? ...its hard to see but i am noticing that what would be behing the bearing is a gasket of some sort inside the housing...my looks torn...how can I change that? how much grease should i use? what type? Im hoping some will be able to help me with this as I have people counting on me and 3 other boats to take a trip this weekend...going to be tough...thanks so much

Do a search. This topic with some great tricks was done a couple weeks ago.

I made my own driver years ago, and use the threaded rod trick to remove it.

I usually change just the bearing, leave the carrier. I have always turned the bearing on edge to get it out or in. Put it in place in the grooves on edge then use a very short broom handle or something to turn it straight after it is in place, then the alignment tool to get it very straight once you have the room for it to fit. I have never used any type of puller or driver, once you turn it on edge it will slip in and out easily. It should all be dry in there, make sure the bellows are not torn. Don't know of any other gaskets, all dry so gasket for ??
