Thanks Rookie for the info.I'm tryin to do this without re-wiring anything if possible.I would like to buy a relay that i can put where the elec. connection block in engine compartment is now with about 12 wires connected to it.Is it possible to just put the 30 amp relay there or will i have 2 re-wire the whole thing?

If your wiring is too small of gauge, alot of the current is used up making heat in the wire from resistance. If you have heavy-gauge wiring from the current source, through the switch and to the motor, you'll be OK. You'll just need to find out where your bad connection is and replace it. Most likely you'll find that it's 12 or 14 ga the whole way and the switch has either small spade or screw terminals. All this puts big resistance into the circuit. The only way to fix this is larger wire. Finding a switch that will handle the amperage at 12vdc is the real trick. That's why the relays.
If you install relays, use this Hella part number- HL87417. It's waterproof and has an integral mounting tab.

I added some cheap relays with a new hatch lift and it zips up and down now. Search on OSO, I found the wiring diagram and everything. Basically a pain to install but works great. No major rewiring but you do have to run wires to the batteries and install a terminal board (West Marine) and wire the relays into the existing wiring to and from the hatch actuator. Need to do something or the actuators will break like mine did.

You shouldn't have to do that much re-wiring. Most of it is already there. If you look on the Speedwake thread, the diagram shows you what you need. You already have a primary circuit voltage feed and a switch. There's wiring running back to the unit. You would just disconnect the wires from the hatch actuator and attach them to the relay's primary side coil. The only thing you'd need to add is the 10ga feed to the secondary side contacts of the relay and the wires from the relay to the lift.
