What is the major difference between a 502-415 HP MPI and a 500 HP EFI.

It depends on the year. The shortblocks used to be the same on earlier versions. Newer versions had Manley rods. Heads are GM rect ports on both. Cam, springs, rockers, intake, ECM program and fuel injection are different.

I have a 1999, would that be a Manley rod version.

I should have said the Manley rods are only in the newer 500EFI's. The 502mpi's have GM forged rods.
It depends on the serial # for the 500EFI. It looks like #OL306500 and higher have the manley rods.
