Not sure which way this tread went. The 600 sci and the 700 sci, do not use the same oil filter. Or at least the 600's we had, and 700's we now have don't. The 600's you can cross with a Fram HP 4.

So it looks like Merc wants more flow and sacrifices filtration on it's bigger motors?

SO a Wix Racing or Fram HP series is what they spec for?

Mercruiser cross numbers for K&N filters....

http://www.knfilters.com/marine/maroilfilter.htm

Cross for more filters..

http://www.amsoil.com/products/oil_a...ng_filters.pdf

So my research found that the 600 Mercury #'s cross with a Fram HP-4 = Wix 51060R = K&N 07-0029 = MOROSO 22460

If I were fortunate to have a pair of 600's I would go with one of the filters above as they are built for "Racing".

I would probably use the K&N filters. As the new ones have really outstanding flow and capture as well. The MSRP is $14.00 and Autozone and PepBoys have them for around $10.00.

http://www.knfilters.com/oilfilter.htm

I like what Moroso is saying here...a balance of flow and filtering..27 micron filtration (I think Wix was 60 mics if I recall.) This Moroso filter is in my mind equal to a K&N... lots of flow...proper engine oil pressures...max. engine life. Not that Wix is a bad filter or anything.

http://www.moroso.com/catalog/catego...?catcode=20002

The 700's cross with a Fram HP-6 = Wix 51222R, 57003R, = Moroso 51222R, 57003R. M0bil-1 501; No K&N #'s.

I think we hav it nailed for the 600/700 engines...agree?

Gotta wonder...but the Moroso has different specs for filtration I believe.

Hydrocruiser, I also prefer the Mobil 1 filters. Do you know what the cross reference part number is from the HP6 to Mobil 1?
