I guess they don't make a filter that doesn't have the bypass in it?

I found out that NAPA is Wix and is the filtration division of Dana.

I think that The Fram HP-1 is non-bypass and many who want such a filter us it...but don't quote me on that.

Fram's HP Series filters are just for performance and racing use. The spin-on filters can trap very small micron-sized particles that cause most engine wear. All filters have an anti-drainback valve, with a maximum flow rate.

The new Fram HP filters now filter down to 18 microns!

Brand: Fram
Product Line: Fram HP Series Oil Filters Part Type: Oil Filters
Part Number: FRM-HP1
Oil Filter Style: Canister
Height (in): 5.750 in.
Outside Diameter (in): 3.719 in.
Filter Bypass Relief Valve: Yes
Relief Valve Open (psi): 22 psi
Anti-Drainback Valve: Yes
Smallest Particle Filtered: 18 microns
Maximum Burst Pressure (psi): 500 psi
Thread Size: 3/4-16 in.
Gasket Outside Diameter (in): 2.813 in.
Gasket Inside Diameter (in): 2.422 in.
Gasket Thickness (in): 0.328 in.
Quantity: Sold individually.
The AMSOIL filters are 98.7% efficient at 15 microns and 50% efficient at 7 microns. I still have not been able to find a full flow filter that is just as good yet.

So what size particle will hurt a motor? 18,30,50????

How small is a 30 micron particle?

I would think fuel dilution and combustion gas is manly what hurts oil, after the initial run in of the motor{ring seal/cam breakin} that the particle/trash/metal wear is minimal unless something is going wrong?

The thickness of a human hair is roughly about 50-70 microns, from what I've been able to find, if that tells you anything.

30 Micron particles are what make up "extra-fine" sand paper.

It's significant if the particles are present in large numbers in an engine's oil. It's like liquid sandpaper.

Combustion byproducts and gasoline blowby along with metal particles are why changing oil frequently makes a lot of sense along with a good oil filter and oil.

If you have 20W-50 M-1 V-Twin and a M-1 or Wix filter on the engine and are changing the oil every 25-30 hours you will see a diference in extended life of the engine that will more than pay you back for your efforts.

For those who might be interested, a NAPA Gold #1794 is a tall 2 qt. Wix filter with no bypass. Combined with a high volume oil pump, large oil lines and fittings and a plugged bypass in the block, I see no restriction at all from the oil filter.
