Maxima Castor 927

Carbed 2.5's on nitrous oxide turning 8800 rpm. Had over 240 hours on the engines before selling. Never an oil related problem, very clean, and smells great too! Downside... expen$ive.

I had a performance Merc outboard long time ago- tried a lot of different oils. Liked Amsoil the best. Once I discovered it, I never used anything else.

If you're gonna run a Mercury oil in that 280, run the Performance Blend. I would NOT run an oil made for the Opti's.

Personally, I run the Klotz R-50 in my 260, however I may be switching to the Alisyn ProPower, which is also a 100% synthetic and is an excellent product. You can buy it direct from them.
