Default How important are coolers?

Just as the title reads. Say 502 with a 10/71 or 12/71 with low boost. Not racing ..... just farting around a lake with occassional blasts in the bay. Is it absolutely necessary to run the chillers for motor longevity or are they run strictly for more power?

hahahahhaa. Patrick, we are still getting the paperwork done, but I did finally get insurance (thanks to EP). woohooo. We are definitely "on" for saturday though... hell maybe even sunday too. LOL.

I am gonna leave them alone for now, but I want to start getting parts together for this winters transformation.

hahahaha. True. But I am a die hard gear head and have to have projects to keep me busy and I love blower motors.... i just dont want to have to put scoops on it and with chillers a scoop would be a neccesity.

Anyone run these big blowers without chillers?

If you run it like this you will have no problems....btw an 8-71 is plenty for a 502, you should be able to drive it at least 5% under for typical set-up. Chillers are run for both power and longevity...BUT, if you are thinking of making ~6# of boost (not a lot of power) and not being wide open for 5 minutes then you will have no issues...
