Default Iron Heads

What are the best iron heads for an HP500 (carb) motor ? We lost one last weekend and it's time to rebuild both. These motor have 950 hrs on them if the blocks are good then we will reuse them but the heads must go.

Thanks
Joby

Wow! what kind of motor work (maintenance) did you do to get 950 hrs out of them?

Yep- the Iron Eagle's are about the best. If you meant OEM, the 990 casting is about it. The 088 is good too- probably what was on your motor.

950 hours on a pair of Merc HP500's is pretty good---I'm sure they're gettin' pretty tired. Also, if you're looking to do a cam change/upgrade call RMBuilder/Bob Madara of Marine Kinetics in N.Y. He will get you the correct profile that will work the best for your application and what you want to do with the boat. 585-654-8583

Talk to Jim Valako about his Iron Eagles. He ports them to flow as good as a set of AFR's. They're good for a hundred hp or more over the GM heads.
