Arrow What to run in a towing vehicle?

I have been asked this a bunch of times. Here is a suggestion:

Mobil DelVac -1 5W-40

Mobil Delvac 1 full synthetic 5W-40 diesel engine . Simply the finest diesel engine oil, providing a full 40 weight oil thickness protection and a superior additive package capable of providing oil change intervals of up to 100,000 miles for over the road trucks! You will be amazed with the instantaneous starting with Delvac 1 and its overall performance! If your diesel is EGR valve equipped and/or exhaust particulate filtered, Delvac 1 ESP is your answer for long lasting, trouble free operation! Mineral based diesel oils create an almost resin like substance in as little as 25,000 miles, causing the EGR valve to stick. Delvac 1's 100% "real" synthetic base stock (as opposed to Group III wannabee synthetic base stocks) stands up to the grueling temps, providing trouble free EGR performance! Delvac 1 ESP meets/exceeds API service levels CJ-4, CI-4Plus, CI-4, CH-4, CF-4, SL and SJ.

so this would be good for my Sierra 1500? my tow vehicle.

I currently use Mobil 1 5w-30 thinking that i get a little better milage with the 5w-30 than 10w30, no real data but only my thoughts.

5w-30 and 10w-30, basically the same product, still both a 30 weight. If you want better fuel economy go to 5w-20 or 0w-20.

And if you want the best diesel oil you can buy, use the AMSOIL Series 3000 5w-30. If you have a 2007 or newer, use the AMSOIL DEO 5w-40 diesel oil. Anything else, is inferior.

1500 with 5.3 gas run 5w-30. 5w-40 delvac is a disel engine oil. Also sold at wal-mart and other stores and mobil 1 turbo diesel oil. The turbo diesel oil is usually cheaper than the mobil one delvac and they are the exact same oils. I have run mobil 1 in all my diesel's without issue and is an excellent oil.

Shell Rotella 5W-40 is real good as well.

Also, all the Redline products have high levels of ZDDP

http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?group=177

This is Amsoil's best....if not just plain the best..30wt oil around.

You can use it in most any vehicle calling for a 20Wt or 30 Wt.

I tried the 5w-30's in our mediums. They're all Cat 3126's/C-7's. They wouldn't idle worth a $hit. Oil pressure hot at idle was below 20 psi. Oil pressure was low in the Ford PSD's too and idle deteriorated over 5K on the oil.

I'm a huge synthetic fan for gasoline engines. But I look at it this way- I get close to 500K on the medium engines by decreasing service interval by 1/3rd and most of the big engines in OTR tractors see 1M on ordinary Rotella and Delvac.

5w40 Delvac is rated SJ, thats gas engine rating.
The "S" in the SJ rating means spark as in spark ignition.
The "C" in CF-4 means compression as in compression ignition, read diesel. If the oil has a "C" and an "S" rating it will work in both engine types.

If you're "new here" why do you have 100 posts in less than 8 days? Furthermore, why do you have links to spammer sites in your sig?
