Default What size sea pump?

We just built a pair of 1300hp BBC with the quad whipple. As of now we have a pair of Keith Eickert 2 stage pumps on them. One stage going to the bellhousing cooler then up to the engine. The other stage is going to the intercooler. We did not get the boat wet yet but just curious if we have enough flow for our engines.

i used a 2 stage unit. both to bellhousing then to engine then to exhaust. tapped off the 3/4 pipe plugs on top of bellhousing for intercooler. engine was also plumbed for dumps on the rear of intake both sides. this worked well for volume and heat disipation.

That sounds like a nice set up! How much power are you making. My concern was since the inter cooler has less resistance, that the water would go through that and not the engine.

on my intercoolers I use sep. pickups, strainers right to the front of the cooler a pressure relief at the front of the coolers and two dumps out the back that way when idling I have no fuel pudling from cold coolers tends to idle better and always has pressure underway

the engines spoken of made 1250. they too were quad rotor whipple set ups. no problem with idle. plugs. etc, . same as with the merc 700, 850 and 1075 which all see psi at idle. the cold intercooler problem with these engines doesnt seem to be an issue as the water pressure is minimal at idle. the water system in this application was plumbed to relieve anything over 30 psi thru venting, purgeing and pop off valves.
