Raylar small block
Has anyone seen any boat tests using the Raylar LSM550 small block anywhere ? It seems like losing 1000lbs in the rear would be a great benefit. That is unless it disturbs the balance of the boat too much.
I've not seen any live tests anywhere.

This is the only install that I know of. No performance numbers yet. Probably have to wait until things warm up again...

There are a couple of boats that were fitted with the new Raylar LS550 aluminum engine, but these boats are single engine so I can't give you a reference on a twin installation yet, but hope fully soon this new year. Kind of a tough time to sell engines right now, but we are optomistic after the new year starts up we will see some new installs.
As for the weight difference and the CG balance of some boats it might be a problem if the builder of the boat was using a careful balance of weight to set up the riding characteristics of the boat. However, many older boats were based on hulls that were originally based on small block installs and in most of those the weight difference should not be that upsetting to the balance of the boat.
Also keep in mind that most twin big block boats under 38 feet tend to be a bit ass heavy with heavy iron big blocks and the change in weight location can in many cases be shifted with prop type and shape as the props can be adjusted for stern or bow lift depending on setup.
I can't say for sure what would be the case with your boat, but some more information on your boat would be helpful
in whether the Raylar LSM550's would be a good fit for repower. If you are considering a new boat, the builders can, when planning for use of these engines, many times shift some weights and locations within the boat to better balance the fore-aft center of gravity and take advantage of the weight savings of these engines which will be a large improvement in the boats performance overall.
