Default ECU Damage

how interchangeable is one mefi3 unit to another seems like lots of people are running this ecu different configurations. my boat was struck by lighting and fried the ecu just curious if it is poss to buy any mefi3 unit and perhaps re-flash for TBI or MPFI depending on what your configuration is, or maybe just go with MEFI 4 conversion possible? I`m trying to not spend the 1100 from dealer for new unit.

No problem to put another MEFI 3 in as long as it has the same calibration. If you have a bone stock engine, then you can put the same computer on your engine. Let's say you have a 502 mag mpi, then any computer from a 502 Mag mpi from the same year will work. If you have a custom cal., then you can still put in any Mefi 3 as long as you install the same cal you had before.
The MEFI 3 and MEFI 4 are not direct conversions. There are adapters to use the same harness you have, but you must convert the cal. The two ecms are different enough that you must do some custom tuning to get the 4 to work. Give me a call. I may be able to set you up with a 3. I can certainly convert it to a 4. It all depends on what the engine is as to how much work is involved in converting it.
