zz502 and edelbrock 2094 head kit 611hp ?

Has anyone tested edelbrocks claim that the zz502 shortblock with their head, manifold, cam combo p/n2094 yields 611hp@5800 and 572 ft/lbs of torque.I'm thinking about buying this combination instead of rebuilding 454 and would like to know if anyone has tested it in a boat. The edelbrock setup comes with their 2262 roller cam int 236/625 exh 245/639 with a 109 lobe sep, 300cc runners 2.25 intakes, and victor jr manifold.Sounds good for a bracket racer but how does it perform in the water and what about reversion,if anyone has tried this combo or has any knowledge or opinions I would greatly appreciate the thread... It would be installed in a 253 convincer with a 26 bravo 4 blade.

The 109* lsa will probably give you problems with reversion.

The 502 shortblock is a great foundation.

For heads and valvetrain I would contact Bob Maderia aka RMbuilder.. 585-654-8583.

Lots of guys here on OSO have gone to him with excellent results.

I agree that the cam will not work, unless you are running full dry exhaust.

I would not spend the $ on the kit, those #'s would not be that hard to acheive and work in a boat....I agree call Bob M.

Wink

The zz502 comes with aluminum heads made by Edlebrock?
I am sure that camshaft would up the horsepower on a zz502 close to 600HP alone at that rpm , but as everyone is saying here, that is not a cam grind you would want to run in a boat with a wet exhaust!
Sometimes its good to stop reading all the magazine hype and talk to those who know to avoid disasters!

I've got an engine available that might be just what you're looking for. Just refreshed last summer. It's a 502 w/AFR heads, Custom "RMbuilder" cam, KE headers. Made 592 HP on my dyno, in full "wet" marine trim. Give me a shout if interested.

That cam has a 112 lobe seperation. Will this still create reversion?

I have used those heads and Bob RMbuilder made the cam to match. Good heads for the money, but I would invest in AFR or what ever Bob suggests to make it a complete package. Remember exhaust is the key to any major build!

If you plan to spin a zz502 anywhere near 6 grand, think again. We took a brand new one apart and checked its build and balance quality. It would have beaten itselt to death in no time without being properly balanced.
