exhaust water shutters
Does anyone know if i should install exhaust shutters on my thru leg exhaust?
78 Mustang 2400 with V8 sb chev.
Log style exhausts with a 3" riser spacer into y piece.
I have been advised that engine will ingest water when loading / unloading at the ramp.
Any advice much appreciated
Cheers

I don't have exhaust flaps on mine but you can injest water when unloading. I like the look of my flared exhaust outlets so instead of flaps/shutters I use large rubber bungs(plugs) . These can be connected to the boat by a fine stainless steel cable or similar so they wont get lost if you forget to take them out. The motor will just blow them out once you are in the water and you can pull them up into the boat.

If it hasn't injested water in the last 30 years, I think you'll be ok. Exhaust flappers are designed to keep water out when the boat is not running. Back in slowly at the ramp.
