you're definitely not alone...
Don't know if this will help, but there is a comment in this thread about a 'tighter' steering box...

I feel for you. Stuff like this is very aggravating. Good luck!

I would consider looking into a good double shock steering stabilizer. I tow a 31' Sonic with my 06 F250 with a 4" lift and 35" mud tires and dont have any issues at all.

I have had this happen once. Let me tell you I thought I was going to lose control. Before the problem settled I was close to sideways, dry pavement at about 75mph. 06 250, stock, always run more than stock air pressure, Rancho stock shocks, original Continental tires. This problem is real. I am not particularly scared of it, but this is not a made up problem. If I over reacted to the situation, I guarantee that the rig would have been on it's roof. I'm glad my wife was not driving.

My 2004 F250 4X4 Super Duty is lifted and pulls my 38KV well....never heard of this, THANKS for posting. I did have to replace the tranny seals as they would leak when it got hot.
Otherwise with 98K on the tach she does the job!

The sad thing is Ford probably knows exactly what the true problem is and is weighing the cost of a recall/fix Vs liability. With this problem effecting vehicle control and safety, it is surprising that nothing is being done.
I read in that link someone watched from a car next to the truck while it happened and said the wheel shakes terribly looking like the wheel was coming off. A decent video of this could go a long way in forcing a resolution. Just a thought...

I have not seen a answer to a couple questions about the tires ? what load range ? d-e ? seen this happen when some try to get a better ride and try c's. also slop in the steering box
will effect this as well, next do you know what the caster setting is on the truck ? even though it may not be adustable, not sure on this truck, but older fords were not thru normal alignment, a very high amount of positive caster will cause this as well and seems may be the issue here if all else has been checked...if could get that measurment and post it that would be a big help. I spend 17 years doing suspension work at a ford dealership. Also on the explorer issue, ford threw the blame on firestone, when they were as much to blame...they could not get the explorer to pass the rollover test when the tire pressure was set at a normal 32-35 psi setting...they found that they need 26 psi to get it to pass, so thats what pressure they put on their specs..way to low in reality..so you take a top heavy narrow vehicle drop the tire pressure to low to start..then most people never ck tire pressure so people ended up less than 20 a lot of times and the tires overheated from low tire pressure and the rest is history...Rob
