Default ProCharge a Merc 420?

Anyone ever install a ProCharger on a 420? Will it handle 3-5lbs of boost? How much HP gain?

Sean,
Just give it a good cleaning and have fun with it this season! Then next year put Whipples on them! Have you been sleeping on that boat yet? You gotta break it in you know.

While we are on the subject of the 420, does anyone have the details on these engines? Do they have steel cranks, forged pistons, 7/16 rods, rect port heads, etc. I have an opportunity to purchase 2 of these motors and don't know anything about them. I need a stocker for my Baja so I can sell it and step up to some sort of cat hull and use the motor I'm currently running. Not trying to muddy up the post, but as long as you guys are responding about pro charging a 420 I may as well ask about some of the specs. Thanks!

I think the 420's are a better version of the 365 mag. forged bottom end rect. port heads roller rockers all the good stuff....

Jim,

Thanks for the info. That motor looks like a great foundation for some big HP. I am no blower motor expert, but I feel if the heads can be worked a bit to lower the compression to 8:1 and the cam is changed to a blower grind, you would have a blower motor! The hard parts are good strong forged stuff capable of holding quite a bit of HP! I've got call this guy back and see if he still has the engines for sale. He claimed they are tired, but not damaged and he wanted $1500.00 for both or $800.00 each. Not bad if all of the parts are there.

Thanks,
Craig.

The 420 should make an excellent blower motor. As far as I remember the 525 Hawk was a 420 with a B+M 174 blower on it.
Soulds like a decent price as long as the blocks are not rotted out. A buddy of mine put a 420 in his 67 Camaro last summer!
