FIXED !!
This is what I found. Obviously had more than one issue.
A year ago had starter on port side (the hard one) changed out. A few months ago starter began to sound kind of "ratty" when cranking. Knew it was a matter of time on it. So while running close to stops for 3-4 min port engine just cuts off. Try to restart, starter gives up and sounds like engine coming apart.
Do test on coil, ignition mod and sensor in distributor. Pull plugs, look for water. Find that sensor in dist appears to be original (1990) and very rusty. Coil had alittle oil on top looking into top. Screw in top of coil (where coil wire goes) was alittle loose. Distributor cap inside terminals had 1/16 th inch "feelers" coming off each terminal.
Changed sensor in distributor, cap and rotor, coil and starter.
Fired right up and have ran all weekend without problem.
Found on starter that appeared 2 different lengths bolts were used. One not being a starter bolt at all and having 4-5 washers taking up the excess length. Neither were tight, and letting starter kick up each time. Both bolts were bent when we got them out. These are the small planetary gear starters.
Just thought I would give update in case anyone may could use. Thanks for everyones input and help.
