Default Procedure to diagnose bad Gimbal?

I went out on my project aweseom boat yesterday and found alot of slop in the wheel, probably 2 inches of free movement or so. I don't have too much boat experience but alot with other vehicles. My instinct tells me air in the lines and bleed them? (hydraulic steering to the wheel, one ram)

after doing lots of searches and reading on here it seems the gimbel may be responsible for this? it has a bravo on it. Is there a procedure so that I may see if the gimbel is the responsible party? Or a way to test and eliminate the hydraulic steering to eliminate that?

Thanks
