Default Bravo cracked gimbal ???

I had the gimbal off the boat , while driving the old gimbal bearing out I cracked the tube wher the driveshaft goes thru on the engine side. Can I cut this broken piece off or do I need to replace the gimbal. Any suggestions Thanks Jp

Seems to me the main concern would be the crack migrating back to where the bearing is or all the through for that matter. I'm not a welding expert, but maybe that's an option. On the other hand, you could probably find a used housing for a few hundred bucks.

You should drill a hole at the end of the crack to stop it spreading and then have it ground out and and welded

Default gimbal

I cut this broken piece and cleaned up the area. This piece is the inside of the gimbal where the driveshaft goes thru, it looks like a small 2inch pipe which was cut off. Does anyone know that me cutting this off will do any harm to the gimbal or had this problem happen. The bearing and seal areas looks to be in great shape.
