Default What Happens to a 525SC motor at Fountain.

Hell All,
I was wondering what all is done to a Mercruiser 525SC at the Fountain facility. I have a 1995 27 Fever and am just curious. Are they all the same? Is a "stock" 525sc in a Baja or Formula the same as one in a Fountain? I have been told that Fountain goes through the motors but no one has been able to tell me what they do. Thanks All!

The 525SC was a hand assembled engine built at Mercury Racing. I'm sure Fountain would not have done anything to them when they were new or the warranty would be voided.

Thanks All. I was confused about what was done with the motor and where I guess. I understand now that the motor mods over a non Mercury Racing 454 are done at Mercury not Fountain. Anyone want to chime in as to what the differences would be between a "Stock" 454 Mercruiser and a Mercury Racing motor?

All the black engines are technically "Mercruiser"
All the blue engines are technically "Mercury Racing" which is a division of Mercruiser.

The main differences are PRICE and HORSEPOWER.

I believe they would take the gm motor when it comes in a part inspect and balance the rotating assemble put in better springs bigger cam/ intake/carb paint it blue now you have a 15,000 454 420hp or the later 450hp over a black 454 365hp or older 370hp. but I think both of the 454=420hp and 450hp were still black same as with the 502 465hp was black and the 502 500hp was blue and up. I was quessing at the price on a 454 420hp cause the 502 390hp was around 10,000 to 12000 and the 502 465hp when I was looking at 502 motors was 15,000 from a friend back in 93 or 94. what was good you got all new marine add ons, but I wish I went custom motor right away by a good builder instead of paying mercs high price then strip it and buy better parts to make 600hp then more a few years later. I could be wrong so maybe someone mite have more to add. but to day there are a few real good builders out there that can make better power and last.
