Bad low end torque 454 mag MPI 385HP
Hi guys,
I just bought a baja 25 outlaw with 454 map MPI and 23 pitch mirage plus. When I'm running at idle and I push the throttle to max I got only 3300 rpm while 10 seconds and after start to plan slowly and the rpm goes to 4800 full trim.....
Is it normal? or engine problem?
Thanks for your help!

other then that 4800 sounds like a normal rpm for that motor..

Welcome to the forum. If you wanted somthing with great hole shot buy a seadoo boat or bassboat or somthing lightweight. If you want speed you bought a good boat. The boat should run about 63 MPH on GPS with that setup. Take off easy with the drive all the way down, slowly trim up till you on plain. Then run it WOT, Baja's need a lot of trim for max speed.

A 25 Outlaw takes forever to plane with a Mirage Plus. If I had 6 people and a full tank of tank of fuel in my old 24 Outlaw with a stock 454mag, I could barely get the bow to break over and get on plane. A better all around prop is a 22" Bravo 1, but you will lose a couple mph on the top end.

Thanks guys for your input....
A friend of mine with 496 mag not HO (375HP) same boat and prop, the acceleration is much better but the topspeed is the same. I think the torque curve is better than 454 mag. I'dont know....

Put a 22" Turbo Vector on that boat and it will plane better and run right at 5000-5100 rpms you need to be right at the rev limiter you will be at 65-66 mph. You don't need to trim it to the moon either. That's the setup I had on my 25,ran it for five years trust me you won't be dissappointed.

I will try a mirage 23 standard, I think I will gain 200 rpm...but not sure......The Turbo Vector 22'' doesn't exist, I checked on turbo propeller website http://www.turbo-props.com/3blades/v.../?prodID=14742 and there are only 21,23,24,25.......

They have changed their pitch increments. In 1998 i had a 22 Turbo Vector on my 25.You need to get that motor up just over 5000 rpm.All their increments used to be in even numbers.I'm just about ready to quit offering suggestions to people on this website. It seems like people think your full of ****.I'm telling you that's what I had and that's how the boat ran on gps.So do what you want with the info.Hey Griff a Turbo Vector is different than a standard Turbo.
So im to a point where i dont want to say a effin thing anymore..
GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!
