In order to check with a wideband, you will need to install bungs in the exhaust. They can be put in the tailpipes, but they will need to be removed to weld them in. I would check the other things first before I would install the bungs.I have widebands and could be persuaded to make a trip to Chattanooga if need be. Just let me know.

39 MTI "Wildcat",
Did you change the spark plugs when you noticed the black ones? I have seen fouled plugs cause black soot on the transom. Cheap easy fix to try first.

Update!!!

Well, I went through all the checks and wasnt able to find anything.

After sitting and thinking for awhile I rembered that I changed the drive on that side about the same time it started turning my transom black. Not only that but I was having to top off the drive reservoir every time I went out.

So, I did and pressure test on the drive and low and behold the top cap on the XR/ITS drive has a little set screw towards the transom that was leaking

Tightened it up and took it out this weekend....Nothing at all on my transom after an hour of riding around!!

Thanks guys for all your help!

OSO does it again! Nice to come on here to get info and help!!
