Default big HP safe single engine hulls

I have a 900 HP motor looking for a good hull and outdrive set up. I am looking for input. Not sure if I should look at a cat or other. Any input would be great.
How do I get a cool avatar??? Is it some special club or too much beer?
Thanks,
Kyle

Well the big question is whether you want a cat or not? A similarly sized cat vs a Vee will be faster in pretty much every situation. How large of a boat do you want?

If you are looking for speed..

For a cat with a single engine... I would go with a RPM

For a V .. I would go with a Howard Bullet.

If you are a single guy, without kids.. go with the RPM cat

No kids but a concerned wife. I want a cat definately. Ate up with it is an understatement. Flip overs is what she knows about. Is 30 to 33 feet doable in a single screw? Longer the better but at what length is one not enough?

Not really the best choice. For me ( and it's just an opinion) I wouldn't go over a 28ft,with a single cat. Just to throw it out there, Eliminator makes some VERY fast single engine cats in the 26-28 ft range. Ya might want to take a look. With 900hp, you can still run a Bravo style drive such as the Max Machine Worx. MMW makes some very strong Billit drives. If you plan on going above the 900hp mark, I would look into the Imco SCX,or SCT, or Arneson.

No opinion on what boat to get, but to get a pic avatar you have to be a paying gold member.
Good luck on you choice of boat!

Insurance with a cat is tough to buy but may not effect you personally. Id say go shopping lord knows there are plenty out there to choose from. Buy what you like and will suit your purpose.

Wink

I think a 30 Superboat Y2K would be great with 900 HP .

When I was looking to buy a single engine cat's, I flew around the country and drove just about every one I could get my hands on.

The List:
Eliminator 26 & 27 & 28
Nordic Thor 27
Cobra 26
Howard Cat
RPM Redline
Warlock

The one that performed the best: RPM Redline
http://www.rpmpowerboats.com/redline.htm

The Nordic Thor came in second.

Steve at RPM is the nicest guy you will ever meet in the boat manufacturing buisness. He puts his heart and soul into every boat he builds.

P.S. They are really fast also, and handle awsome!

900hp may be Big in a 22 but not in a 28, especially a cat.
