Get rid of that ugly blue butt connector. The absolute worst way to physically connect two wires. No control over the crimp height on that type of connector.
1) non insulated butt connector
2) "light" crimp both wire ends with your stripped wire conductors (core)
3) solder both ends - no cold solder joints either
4) apply (this is done before you crimp your connector ends) a dual wall shrink tube. Heat and shrink into place
5) Done. You have now the best budget boater electrical connection for your marine application

Delaware river. Mostly between Paulsboro New Jersey to Betsy Ross Bridge. At Penns Landing in Philadelphia there are a few good places to dock and grab a bite to eat.
