377 mag and alpha two drive setup?
anyone seen or done this? engine has ten less horsepower than the 454 carb combo so the drive should take it. opinions?

Merc quit doing the 454's with Alphas for a reason. The 454's have too much torque. You would most likely be ok with the small block 377's and Alpha drives. Just get SEI alpha drives with the 3 year no fault warranty.

I wouldnt run it.. That is still pushing it on that drive. Yes some have lived, but not most. Also even if they do it is not uncommon to start encountering shifting issues & premature wear from the added torque & hp. Personally anything beyond a v6 or a 5.0 sbc carb is too much imo to put in front of an alpha. The 5.7 & larger stuff really these days should just be packaged with a bravo without exception..
I in short dont recommend using an alpha with that setup..

We have put 465 HP from our 385 stroker through a Gen II Alpha with zero problems for a year and a half now. We run a drive shower, use the thru hull to keep drive temps down, and use some sense, as in no hammering it out of the hole and throttling back catchting air. Also make sure you idle is set correctly to avoid the gnashing, that will chip a tooth and lead to disaster later.
I change gear lube (Synthetic Mobil 1) every 25 hours and it is always clear with no fuzz or chips on magnets.
Alphas take a lot less HP to turn and less HP to push through the water.
Again, just use some sense and it's fine.

Ping 202350MAG on TBM. He's got the 300hp 350mag in front of an alpha on his boat and I don't think he's had a lick of trouble out of it. Last I talked to him he was seeing high 60's speeds on gps. It won't take a lot of power to get good speeds out of your outlaw.
