Jeff thanks for steering me in the right direction. I'm finally getting around to fixing this. Hopefully this is the ticket cause I'm tired of having the tach's jump 400 rpm's for no reason.

It was hard for me to believe this would work, but it worked like a charm. It has not jumped one time since I grounded the cap.

Did you ground it to the distributor hold down or cap?

One of the little hex screws for the cap. I just used a little horseshoe electrical connector to the cap then took it to the block.

Just to follow up on this. You probably want to go ahead and be looking for a distributor, mine died last year. Once I replaced the distributor I no longer needed the little ground wire.
