2009 Baja Outlaw versus 2010 Checkmate 375zt
I am new to your forum; and am desparately hoping you all can help me out!
We are looking to purchase a new boat, and are stuck between a New 2009 BAJA Outlaw 26 (Baja manufactured by Fountain) verus a new 2010 Checkmate 275zt. I know the history of Checkmate, and I know the history of Baja over the past two years (bankrupcty, etc)
Does anyone have any insight as to major pros and/or cons of each unit?
I appreciate any and all feedback!

The Checkmate 275zt is made from the old Baja 272/275 mold. So it basically has Baja styling with Checkmates glass and gelcoat. Checkmates are still hand laid boats with pretty high build quality for the money.
The 26OL and the 272 or 275 are pretty different boats style wise the 26 is a true 26 with a lot more freeboard and the 275 has a built in swim platform so they are prettu close in real length. The 26OL will probably handle bigger water better and they will probably run close to the same with comparable HP. Maybe some of the Baja guys with experience with both can chime in.
You probably cant go worng with either one if you can buy them right.

Checkmate has always been good quality. I have had ok luck with my older outlaw. but i agree with fireguy in the fact that the OL will handle rougher water a little better. also there will be a little more room in the OL than the ckeckmate with the built in swim platform.
so, I 100% agree with fireguy. i did not know that the checkmate was built from an old baja hull tho.

Thanks all for your feedback. We decided to go forward with the Checkmate, especially since Baja's future is a bit sketchy at the moment. In speaking with Fountain regarding the Baja, I did learn that Baja is now owned by a private equity firm, so I'm not sure I really want to go down that road with such a large purchase.
Thanks to all~
