Benefits of a tall deck BBC vs. reg deck BBC ??
Are there any benefits to running a "tall deck" block compared to a regular deck-assuming everything else is the same-cam, heads, bore and stroke?
Thanks for your responses! Bob G. |
blocks
if you are comparring apples to apples the only thing i can think of is most of the newer tall blocks are newer, heaver and have a higher nickel content in the block, making them alittle tougher and durable.

Benefits= More cubes. No replacement for displacement..

Tall deck is for generally used for longer strokes to create more displacement. A tall deck is needed so you can run a longer rod to make a more favorable rod to stroke ratio, the lower the ratio the less side loading there will be on the cylinder walls thus reducing wear. being able to run a longer rod will allow the piston to dwell at tdc and bdc longer which helps with evacuating exhaust gasses and intaking more air fuel mixture. You can also run a more favorable compression height on the pistons a bigger compression height which will allow for a more stable piston.
Either way you have .400" to play with, do with it as you please. |
If you are talking about building a 540, then you won't see any difference.

Thanks for the responses. So I can assume that when I build my 540 (4.5 bore 4.25 stroke) I will get the same power from my current block (regular deck), instead of buying a tall deck. You guys just saved me money!!!
