An Alpine PDX 4.150 would be my choice.......... and is what I run to power 8 speakers. It will leave you room to upgrade to mor espeakers later if needed and if you don't, the amp won't run as hard. Crutchfield is overpriced IMO. I got both my PDX amps off ebay and the 4.150 was just under $400 and the 4.100 was just under $300. Crutchfield price for the 4.100(PDXf4) is $500.

Probably no warranty for the ebay stuff, except through the seller, but for the cost savings, I'll take my chances. I could buy a new one ofr what I saved on the two amps. One is 3 years old and the other is 2 years old with no issues.

Switched out my Clarion to JLs this summer Night and day diff.
Also the grills screw on so no more popping off in the rough.

I would go with JL over Alpine any day. The sound quality is much better imo.

In my last truck I had put in Memphis speakers. I would use them again in a heartbeat!

anyone use phoenix gold amps? I'm looking for a good 4 channel to power 4 7.7 JL speakers, this may be a dumb question, but are the JL speakers a waste of $$ of you power them just off the head unit?

Head units only put out 20-25 watts rms. In order to justify the expense of expense of JL's you need to put some power to them. At a minumum, a 4x100 watt rms amp. You won't notice a lot of difference in the sound of an average speaker vs a very good speaker until you crank them up.

I put a system together for a friend of mine last year consisting of 8 sps m600 alpine's powered with a 4x125 alpine amp and 2 swr m100's powered by 1000w alpine amp.Everyone that hears it thinks it sounds awsome.I think it just sounds ok.That being said, better sounding systems are out there, but at half the price of the JL's .If not a hardcore sound guy most couldn't tell diference.Alpine may not be the BEST speakers, but they are good bag for the buck!
