Just curious as to what you guys use to put in your gas tank when you don't use the boat for a few months to try and help preserve the fuel so it doesn't gunk up?

I use Stabil.
Fuel really won't "gunk up" in a 6-7 month lay up. It will tend to get some moisture from condensation though.

Nothing. My boat is stored indoors, unheated for about 4 months. If stored outdoors condensation can be a problem and maybe some "dry gas" should be put in there?

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to get some stabil I keep mine outdoors covered under one of those car ports but it's been sitting for a few months and will sit for another few months until I put the new motor in it but wanted to know what to put in the gas tank to prevent anything from happening. I appreciate the help!

Red Sta-Bil if no ethanol or green Sta-Bil for E-10.

It may not "gunk up" in 6 months but it is definately JUNK in that time frame. Mocern blended fuels have a max 60 day shelf life. Many of the volatile hydro carbons evaporate away in as little as 30 days.

I sure would not run 6 month old gas thru a new engine or any engine for that matter save maybe my lawnmower.

Pump it out and start fresh.

Empty the tank over the winter fill as needed in the spring. During boating season only put the amount of fuel in that you will burn in a couple of weeks.

Sta-Bil to keep the fuel from going bad and Startron enzyme treatment to keep from absorbing water.

I actually use startron all the time. I saw a test where new ethanol gas absorbs water immediately once it is in your tank plus I have had some issues.
