Joe he could have the dome on the pistons milled if he already has them..but you got to make sure they do the same cut on all of them.

If you think the compression is to high run a thicker head gasket...like a .051 or so..

Thicker gaskets can cause even more detonation...The quench needs to be maintained to cool the pistons.

Got the hurt GM 509 tore down yesterday. It had two blown headgaskets. Back in the summer, he had several poly locks break, which the valves stopped opening and closing properly. Thinking that took out the two cylinders head gaskets. Was a solid roller setup. Has JE flat top pistons and manley rods in it with GM steel cranks. Were supposed to be 509CI, but actually had 4.500 bores, so stock 502CI still. Cylinders looked good, but have not yet been checked for taper or anything yet.

At this point, him and his builder are thinking of going to 4.250 cranks, and 6.385 rods in the GM block. Keeping the merlin iron heads, going to a hyd roller stick, and ditching the stainless marine exhaust for headers. They plan to run flat top pistons.

Being a budget build, i thought maybe rebuilding the shortblocks as they are with a freshening, putting the money into a set of aluminum brodix or dart heads. Keeping the stainless marine exhaust, and call it good. Not sure about almost 9:1 with with the blowers and iron heads??

Of course new stroker kits and some brodix aluminum heads would be nice!

Stock bore is 4.466-4.468 so they actually are 509's

joe, if it blew between the cylinders put a straight edge on the block..they will usually burn the block if it blew between the cylinders..he would be better of with dish pistons and decking the block..

They actually blew out towards the valley. Engine pumped oil right out the dipstick...did leave a burn marks though.
