K Planes on Formula 242
I'm getting ready to install a set of 280 K Planes on my Formula 242. I'm going to have to install them in a bit farther than the bennetts do to the Silient Thunder Platfrom. From what I've read on other posts it seems that you want to install these so they're about 3/4" above the hull... Also I don't want to loose any speed as a result of adding these. Any suggestions on this project before I start it?

3/4" seems a little high. I had them at 1/2" or 3/8" on a 30' Scarab. Any trim to push the bow down is going to scrub off speed. If you need to trim down at WOT you need to balance the boat better if possible and use drive trim not the tabs.IMO

I'm adding the tabs for safer big wave performance. I had read that due to the fact that K Planes are longer than the bennetts that they will have more drag, even trimmed all the way up. That is what I was refering to. The bennetts will only trim level to the hull where it seems the K Planes will actually trim up.
Right now I need to use the tabs to balance the boat at less than wto speeds but it runs flat when over 55 mph or so. So I think the natural balance is ok.

I went from Bennetts to 280S K-Planes on my 292. They are installed so when full up there is no contact with the water coming off the transom, so no loss in speed. In rough water the K-Planes at neutral position (like in the pic) actually helps run faster and in more control compared to the Bennetts. You will love the improved rough water handling.
I just went out and measured and the K-Planes are mounted 5/8" above the bottom of the boat. Again, the pic shows neutral position, or even with the bottom of the hull. Full up position has the tips several inches higher.

Thanks for the info! That helps in regards to how to mount and the speed issue. I look forward to getting these on and seeing how much better my boat is in the rough. Right now for what it is, I'm very happy with the ride out of a 26' boat.

I'm getting ready to tackle installing the K planes... I have one other question. On the 242 it has a hook that goes from the chine to the outer strake. If I mount them as far out as I can part of the tab will be behind the hook. The hook is about 3/4-1" lower than the rest of the hull... Would this cause any ill effects? Or should I mount them so they're inside the outer strake so the water flow will be even?

I'm set on the mounting height, the issue I'm having now with the hook. One side of the trim plate would be say 3/4" and the other half will be around 1 1/4" due to the hook. Is this going to be an issue? If this is hard to picture I can take a picture and upload it.
