Default extended runner mod for Holley Strip Dominator?

I have an older Holley Strip Dominator intake manifold that I was thinking about runnning on my 489. Is it possible to weld in some short aluminum dividers to extend the runners about 1.5" into the plenum, or would I be better off running a 4-hole spacer under the carb? The goal is to add a little torque to the midrange. I have read that these manifolds are a little bit more suited to high RPM operation, and lack a bit in the low/mid range versus the Dart's, which have the extended runners. Has anyone made a modification like this?

I did it wih epoxy on a circle track car a few years back, worked great! They held the record for that year,,,Basicaly you are just making the plenium smaller for more response in the lower r.p.m. range..A 4 hole tapered spacer would also work....Ken
