Hi, I am looking for as much input I can get on purchasing a boat in the 28 ft class, witha single engine. I am looking at the sunsation 288 and love the look of the boat but get mixed reviews on the handling of the boat in Lake Erie or rough waters or even in plane> Any input you guys can help me with I'd so appreciate it or opinions on better lternatives and the price range on the 2001 2002 yeaar. Thank you in advance!!

You should post this in the Sunsation forum and the main General forum for better exposure. This is more of a technical forum.

I have ridden in a8few times and IMO its a decent rough water boat but there are better riding boats. The 288 is kinda light for its size, which means good speeds with modest power, but you sacrifice a little ride quality. The heavy duty rough water boats like Apaches and Panteras are heavier and take more power to get the same speeds.

Erie gets snotty quick. You might want to look at a Pantera or Active Thunder. See if you can get a ride in a few different boats in that size and pick the one you like best.

Are you trying to stay with a single? I would most definately go 30' or bigger with twins for Erie. Makes a huge difference. There are some boats out there that will handle it well, my 24 cig actually did fine on LE, but it was certainly a rougher ride on the back. Take some rides in different boats and see what you think.
