Default adding a portable get to a fountain

Has anyone added a portible generator in the engine compartment to a fountain. I have a 12 pack size honda I was thinking about running the exhaust up to one of the engine vents and leave the blowers running while coving out to keep the batterys charged

Might want to do a search... I have actually seen it done before, but it scares the hell out of me. The generators are not spark arested in any way, so all it takes is a little fuel and boom. I would, however, consider running a small Honda on the swim platform or deck in open air.

despite the additional explosion hazard sounds like a good idea!

You'll hear a bunch of people say not to do it but I know a guy that did it. His exhaust was actually plumbed to a dedicated outlet at the rear of the boat with hi-temp exhaust hose, etc. He even pulled a fuel supply off the feedline to one of the engines.

I used to run mine on the swim platform though.

totally illegal setup. must be flame arrested and have a wet exhaust. you are not even legally allowed to run that generator on the swim platform of the boat. if you want a genset spend the money and have one installed correctly and then you won't have to worry so much about burning the boat or the carbon monoxide poisening to your family.

If something happened insurance would not pay for anything that happens in the bilge. Better off running it on the swimplatform. No spark protection. Kind of like running a car alternator....."Boom"

Ditto, I'd love to have an onboard gen. installed but can't scrape up the $10K to have it done.

have D rings and ratchet straps in my engine compartment where the gen sits from the factory. We strap it down there when not in use. Its so light I can move it in and out very easy and it runs the AC and all accessories with ease! VERY quiet too!
