Engine hard to start when cold
Just breaking in my new engine and it runs fine once warm but is very hard very hard to start. It's acting like it s flooding but can't figure out why. Here is the run down
350 with vortec heads, 650 demon w/mech secondary, lt4 cam, performer rpm manifold. Mallory marine 4110 electric fuel pump that is pre set to 7 psi.
I have the four corner screws turned out 1 1/4 turns. The floats seem to be letting fuel come about 3/4 up the site glasses. It spits and sputters but once it clears out it runs and idles fine. Once warm it starts pretty easy i just cant figure out whats up Any help would be appreciated as the first big weekend is coming up as we all know, lol.

Assuming the plate is closed all the way when the engine is cold, I would experiment with different starting procedures.
Are you pumping the throttle before you turn the key? Pumping the throttle while the key is turned?

Plate is closed all the way when cold. After it starts it loads up when you try to rev it up a little. It takes about 30 seconds for it to clear up and blows out a bunch of smoke until it finally clears up. I'm afraid it's gonna wash out my new rings if I dontfigureit out

I would completely remove the choke plate, shaft, and related hardware. If the engine is correctly set-up it will start and run when cold, warm it up by running 1200 rpm for a minute or so and your good to go. I have seen the plate close when wave jumping re-entry happens, this dumps alot of fuel. Chokes on a boat are usually more trouble than they are worth. If you must retain it, adjust it so it has the minimum effect.
