Default IMCO Exhaust flaps

So I just got a new set of the IMCO rubber exhaust flaps, and they are not quit what I expected. Do I mount them with the pin VERTICAL (so the flap bellows on either side) Or horizontal. (Flap top and bottom?) I have 300 HP exhaust going through 3.5 inch pipe running at 6000 rpm. Is this going to be ok? Or do I need a different setup.
I know this is my first post, but I enjoy reading here from day to day. Thanks all in advance.

were you expecting internal or external flaps? if they are internal flaps i've always seen them mounted vertically, though you may want to get some spares cause they always break off
