Default Do I need the HP coupler?

I'm pulling my motor this winter, and feel like its good ins. to go ahead and replace the drive coupler. I plan on taking it from its stock 365hp to maybe at most around 500hp. I'm running a stock early B1 on a fairly light boat. At those limited hp numbers, do I really need to upgrade to the HP coupler? I'm doing this on a limited bugdet, and didn't know if it was needed?
