Superchargers...Whipple 4.0 or 5.0 vs Roots 14-71
#82
Wow...it's been a while. Got more questions. I just went to the Whipple Supercharger website....I do not see any info on what was, or used to be their "5.0L" carbed version of the BB Chevy---the version that is supposed to be a direct bolt on roots style replacement. Is the "5.0L" version now being called something else?
Does anyone know the approximate cost of the 5.0L carbed version of just the blower itself? I just want to replace the roots style blowers I already have....I have the existing intakes, inner cooler, snout and pulley system. Thanx anyone

Mild---sounds interesting...perhaps they're referred to as the "8.3L" now??? thanx
Mike Tkach or anyone who has converted their Roots style superchargers to the whipple direct bolt-on replacement package/kit, please chime in and let me know what your experiences are....happy or not happy---the good and the bad. Thanx again

Mark I'm sure mike can chime in, but I can tell you he's very happy with his Whipples so far. He has a 588ci dart 355 cnc heads, hyd roller setup, making 1200hp on 93 gas. They idle fantastically. I believe everything bolted up nicely.
The 5.0 whipple and 8.3 are different blowers, obviously the 8.3 is larger. I believe both are avail for carb or efi.
I don't know whether it's true but I have heard guys claim 100hp gain by switching from a big roots to a big whipple, at the same boost level.

i have not responded because i was out on my cruiserfor the weekend, yes everything from the 10.71s bolted to the 8.3L whippels.on another note,i took the 16.71 blower off of a 572 engine i have and put the 8.3 on it and made almost 200 more hp.a roots blower eats up a lot of power to spin it ,the screw blower has way less parasitic loss witch coralates to more crankshaft hp.also, the whippel 5L and the 8.3L are both avalible in top or rear entry.

i am running some pretty snotty cams and i have a good idle, this is because the bypass valve whipple incorperates in the supercharger.i dont want to pizz anybody off but i will tell you that my 8.3L superchargers are superior to a 14.71.NO COMPARISON.the whipple cost more but you get what you pay for.i dont know dustin but he did talk me threw a efi setup i did for a guy abouy 6 years ago and he is a very smart person.

Kamma, depending on whether you want the 5L or the 8.3L and which finish you want (black, blue, polished), the list price runs anywhere from about 6K-7K for just the blower. Of course, that is list price. e can do much better than that price. Let me know if I can help.
