Default H.P. 500 rev limiter

Can anybody tell me where the stock rev limiter is located on a 1999 Merc Racing H.P. 500 ? I have an M.S.D. ignition box with a Jacobs coil . What is the stock rev limit and at what r.p.m. can this engine be safely run ? Thank you kindly .

Stock rev limit is 5350rpms. They will run best if propped for 5200-5300. They could actually be run a couple hundred rpms higher without any problem.

There is a plug in on the msd that will tell you the rev limiter limit.. Go to msd and down load a pdf of it and you will see it

Its under the Mercathode on the steel bracket.

Not that it matters much, but page 57 of the owners manual in the "Engine Specifications" section says the rev limit is 5400 RPMs.

Still friends Griff?

If you have removed the stock merc ign box you will not have a rev limiter unless your msd box hase one. griff is right on with the rpm's. what limits them is your valve train.
I also run the stock merc hall efect dist in my hp500's but i run the msd 6al-2 ditigal box's with these you can program your own timing curve and rev limit right off your laptop. they work very nicely.
