Hi Dyno... I am using the perma cool stat from summit.. I installed it when I put my cooler on with the new motor. I like it.. It lets the oil bypass the cooler untill 180-190 degrees then closes and forces the oil through the cooler. I have fast warm ups now. It is a small device can fit mosty anywhere, but you might have to make a bracket to secure it... In my mind its a good piece and works great..

Dyno,
I installed the KE oil stat on my boat.. not sure how it works cause my boat doesnt run. But the idea is a sound one.. you need 190 degrees to run WOT.. so it makes sense. I hope to have a report on this unit within a couple of summers.. Keep an eye out for my progress..

Thanks guys! Dick I cant wait to here how the check runs ....get a move on will ya! I think that K.E. unit is a little out of my price range.....the permacool one is less than $50 but I'll bet it would be a ***** to install now with the motors in the boat!

I set up this year permacool with big eddie marine cooler. I had small mercuser cooler. Now motor oil warms up quicker & pressure never drops below 70psi. before it would go down to 50psi.
Motor was in boat when I did it.
If you do a search you will see where some pictures were even posted.

I've looked at the permacool unit and like it cause the price is right. Does anybody know, though, whether it has flow restrictions that could be an issue on a big HP motor?
If so, 2 permacools in parallel would work, eh?
