I would - but I have to replace the transom as its delaminated. So I figured I may as well update. I just picked up an 03 merc EFI motor to go in, I have a complete gimbal and all the other needed merc parts, except the Bravo 1. Besides I was looking for trimability. I'm a bit afraid the SBC may drag down the stern and will need the drive trim to compensate.

look into what x-dim you want. unless you find a shortie bravo, your prop is gonna be deeper into the water...

Ok - so what's the recommended for a sweet 16? Since i'm restoring the stringers and transom, I can pretty much put the drive height anywhere, within reason. What advantage do I have with the shorter drive aside from less draft?

The shorter drive is less drag = more speed The Bravo 1 will be a nice up grade just my opinion . The volvo will sell I sold a few this last summer but didn't bring much money.
