It's the other way around. A longer rod creates less cylinder wall load, since the rod angle is less with the longer rod. The shorter the rod, the more angle and therefore more wall pressure. A Problem then can be that a long rod needs less compression height, which in turn makes for a shorter less stable piston.

Well the moral to the story is, I got a crank out of a 6.2 and it's internally balanced. From what I have found, internaly balanced was a 6" rod, but can't confirm what Merc actually used!
The bob weights are the same size or super close (not out of the block yet) as the 350 crank, could it be balanced for a 5.7 rod.

Yes, and you will probably have to re-balance to whatever rod and piston package you decide to use.

I plan on re balancing, but would like to get close to what it's balanced for.

Rods, pistons, wrist pins, rings all play a part, it would be nice to get close, less mallory metal.

I've built several and they all had the 5.7" powdered metal GM rods.
