actually the REAL oval port from the 781 head and all the 396's from bygone eras are the standard oval port. when it became a truck only motor they dreamed up this tiny little round thing and called it SMALL oval port. the orig ovals are nearly as big as rectangle ports and are good for 600+ hp with 2.19 valves and some porting. of course, you can get 500 out of the peanut port head with LOTS of porting.

Haxbyspeed, This sounds like that guy that came over from some car site and was making very tall claims backed by HIS further dyno claims. What was that jomoc's name?

Are we talking about someone mentioned in this little thread? Isn't Cstraub the "king" of peanut heads and bad cams?

Might wanna give a phone call to JIMV on the board here. He has a new aluminum casting that is supposed to flow [email protected] lift. Im pretty sure Jim has always been into the smaller runner, high velocity type of heads, which just may be the ticket with a engine of your size to make some nice power.

However, if 500-525HP is your goal, I dont think you'd have a problem using any of the mentioned heads with the 498CI and a good roller cam. Well, maybe except for the circus peanuts!
