Default Upholstery questions new backing and vinyl

Wondering if there is anything better to replace wood with or if not what kind of wood for interior backing and seats. Also where to buy it

what kind of vinyl do you use and whats the best place to buy that

the wood in my Nova was (looked like) household plywood that was never painted. high quality exterior plywood with a layer of poly resin painted on will outlast the boat. pay special attention to sealing up the edges, especially on the bottom side. you can buy 75 buck a sheet marine plywood, but you still need to seal it...

Agree with coating decent plywood with fiberglass resin.

As for the vinyl, they sell it at joanne fabrics if there is one near you or maybe another larger fabrics/crafts store. It is about 15 bucks a yard and has held up very well.

Exterior grade plywood is fine. If you are that worried about it use some thompsons water seal over the wood. Always use stainless staples so they wont rust. I got marine grade vinyl and polyurethane mesh off ebay for really good prices.

stainless or better yet monel staples. joann fabrics price is nearly twice what my place is.
