Default water temp gauge

Hey guys, I have been having a problem with my port side water temp gauge fluctuating or just stays on 0. Its all over the place no matter how fast or slow im running. Maybe you can steer me in the rite direction on what the problem might be. Bad gauge? Sending unit? or more serious? Thanks

I would keep it simple at this point. Check for loose wires at the gauge, check for a good ground. Being that it is at 0, and not below, it could be in the pig tail at the engine. You can put the sender wire to ground, it should peg the gauge. It sounds like a bad connection, but it doesn't rule out the gauge being broken internally. Hope this helps you.
