Default neutral safety switch

I have an '82 excalibur hawk '40 and recently the key switch stopped cranking the motor(EFI 502), there is power to the switch so it is throwing power to the starter. I was wondering if it could be the neutral safety switch and if it is.... where is it?

On the kiekhaefer controls, it's a microswitch on the back of your shift handle, I can't speak to non-offshore style (IE, throttle and shifter on same handle). I haven't had one fail before though, they seem pretty stout. I HAVE had several engine kill lanyard switches fail in the past, so if your boat has those, I would definitley start there first. there are just 2 wires on the back of the standard kill switch for each motor, you can use a double ended spade plug and bypass the switch to test.

I my experience (I'm not an expert, just barely smart enough to use a multimeter, JUST...) but the last time I replaced a kill switch, it still had power to the key, the switch kills power at the starter.)
